Complex Trauma Injury

Trauma (Fracture) is most common and basic orthopaedic problem. Usually associated with vehicular accidents, but can also occur with domestic fall or simple fall from height.

Symptoms

Severe pain, Deformity and Inability to use affected limb.

Diagnosis

Usually digital x-ray is all that needed for the diagnosis but in certain cases it may require CT scan and MRI scan to diagnose / to understand the geometry of the fracture.

As shown in figure fracture can happen in any bone of the body. And most importantly NOT all the fractures require surgery. But after consulting an orthopaedic surgeon which ever fracture needs surgery, there are multiple options available for reconstruction like;

  1. Plate and screws (Locking, Non-locking)
  2. Intramedullary nail(Rods)
  3. K-wires

Selection of implant is done depending on the fracture and patients requirements post-surgery.

The fracture implants are available in either SS (Stainless steel)/Titanium variants. We usually prefer High quality Titanium implants as they are more bio friendly and MRI compatible.

All the fracture surgery requires precision to allow early and anatomical healing and to prevent any future deformity or complications.

WHAT IS A KNEE REPLACEMENT SURGERY?

Total knee replacement surgery also called knee arthroplasty, is a surgical procedure to resurface a knee damaged by arthritis. This can help relieve pain and restore function in severely diseased knee joints.

The goal of knee replacement surgery or knee joint replacement surgery is to resurface the parts of the knee joint that have been damaged and to relieve knee pain that cannot be controlled by other treatments.

Your doctor can choose from a variety of knee replacement prostheses and surgical techniques, considering your age, weight, activity level, knee size and shape, and overall health

WHAT THE KNEE SURGERY ENTAILS

The operation usually takes between an hour and an hour and a half and many anaesthetic techniques are possible.

Your surgeon will remove the damaged joint surfaces via a cut on the front of your knee. They will be replaced with an artificial knee joint. This is made from metal, plastic or a combination of the two.

Recovery

After all fracture surgeries require some post-operative rest with/without plaster/brace to operative side, followed by physiotherapy to achieve early maximum post-operative movements and function.

Do we need to remove implant after fracture heals?

As explained we use high quality low profile titanium implants which are biocompatible and rarely bothers patients .But if at all they are prominent, interferes with movement or patient doesn’t want any foreign material in their body then we strongly recommend to get them removed at 1.5-2 years post-surgery to avoid complications of late removal.

Plaster cast

For fractures that require immobilization, we use high-quality plaster casts to ensure proper alignment and healing. This traditional method is effective for stabilizing bones and allowing them to heal naturally.

Nailing

Intramedullary nailing is a minimally invasive surgical technique used to stabilize long bone fractures. This method provides strong internal support, allowing for early mobilization and faster recovery.

Plating

We utilize advanced plating techniques to fix fractures with precision. Metal plates and screws are used to secure bone fragments, ensuring optimal alignment and stability during the healing process.
